Week Four- More Exploration

This past week I discovered RSS feeds. So much information- so little time. I can see the appeal- all the news you want at your fingertips. The fact that you can check at your convenience to see what has been updated is great. It's just that finding the time in our busy lives to visit these sites and read the posts can be a challenge. Much of my time at work is spent working on the computer. When I'm at home I prefer to be involved with other things. I did set up my bloglines newsreader account and I did subscribe to some library blogs and library related post though. I can make time at work to check in occasionally. At any rate- thing number 8 and thing number 9 have been explored. Speaking of checking in- I call every night to find out if the court needs jurors. So far I've only needed to report one day. Only two more weeks of uncertainty and then I've done my civic duty for the year. It will be a relief to be able to plan ahead and not have to worry about whether or not I'll be going to work.

Hi Maureen

I agree that the issue with the information explosion is that you can spend your entire day reading blogs and wikis and nings and never get any actual work done.

I have had to be really selective in what I follow and I usually check it a couple of times a week instead of daily - I don't want it to get in the way of my reading and beading time - ya got ta have priorities as my nephew would say :-)

Good luck with the jury duty thing. I was on Federal Grand Jury eligibility for 18 months. I had a Happy Dance in April when that was finally up and I only had to go in 1 time.

Hi Maureen, I don't know if you'll get back here or not, as I am finishing the class WAAAAAY late. How about a 12 month journey for me!

I too feel overwhelmed with the amount of info out there, and the amount of time spent in front of a computer. My drug of choice is the New York Times. I read the headlines online every morning, which helps me feel informed, but also cuts into my exercise time, and if exercise doesn't happen in the morning it doesn't happen. I'm also an NPR junkie, so I try to read only those NYtimes articles that I know won't be covered by NPR at some point in the day. I was supposed to have Jury Duty in July but postponed as I plan to hike the Chilkoot trail then. I DO have my priorities!
